Fundraiser for Empire State Winter Games

Olympic Champion, Bill Demong

Olympians Bill Demong, Andrew Weibrecht and Haley Johnson among others are donating items they used during the Vancouver Olympics to an auction that will help raise money for the Empire State Winter Games. The Games were nearly cancelled due to funding problems but local businesses and other groups rallied to keep the games alive. Now, the Olympians are adding their muscle to the effort."They let me pick and I ended up giving my one piece race suit from the Olympics," said biathlete Haley Johnson. "I didn't end up wearing it because I used the two piece instead."Bronze medal winning skiier Andrew Weibrecht donated long underwear to the cause. He hopes the auction can help stabilize the financial situation surrounding the games."I'd like to see this not be an issue next year and we can raise the funding we need and carry that over to the next season," Weibrecht said. The most coveted item might be a pair of training skis used by Bill Demong in the lead up to his gold medal win in Vancouver.
