Olympian to be St Patrick’s Grand Marshal in Wicklow

Wicklow Olympian Roisin McGettigan will be this year’s Grand Marshal at Wicklow Town’s St Patrick’s Day parade.
A spokesman from the committee confirmed this evening that McGettigan, a steeplechase specialist who represented Ireland at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, will lead the parade on March 17 through Wicklow Town.
She is said to be honoured and will return to her native town to celebrate the Irish national holiday.
Last year, McGettigan married long-time boyfriend Myles Dumas, a designer and photographer, at Wicklow Town’s St Patrick’s Church.
The Grand Marshal role is a gesture by the committee to reward Roisin for her amazing achievements in athletics.
